Fluorosurfactant retention in the foam blanket during gravitational drainage of an aqueous film-forming foam

چکیده

A model aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) comprising a fluorocarbon surfactant (6:2 FTSaB), hydrocarbon surfactant, solvent, and water was deployed on heptane fire with the gravimetrically-drained solution collected at regular time intervals analysed for concentration. Foam drainage behaviour within system non-linear both control (no exposure) fire-exposed tests, as would be expected. However, concentration of fluorosurfactant initially lower, increasing time. This suggests that fluorosurfactants are retained blanket longer than other constituents foam. is proposed to result from unequal probability rupture in bubbles blanket: rate collapse decreases time, lower stability burst until those higher persistence content remain.

Foam consolidation and drainage.

A theoretical model of foam as a consolidating continuum is proposed. The general model is applied to foam in a gravity settler. It is predicted that liquid drainage from foam in a gravity settler begins with a slow drainage stage. Next, a stage with faster drainage occurs where the drainage rate doubles compared to the initial stage. The experiments conducted within the framework of this work ...

Numerical solution of time-dependent foam drainage equation (FDE)

Reduced Differental Transform Method (RDTM), which is one of the useful and effective numerical method, is applied to solve nonlinear time-dependent Foam Drainage Equation (FDE) with different initial conditions. We compare our method with the famous Adomian Decomposition and Laplace Decomposition Methods. The obtained results demonstrated that RDTM is a powerful tool for solving nonlinear part...

Treatment of Aqueous Film-Forming Foam by Heat-Activated Persulfate Under Conditions Representative of In Situ Chemical Oxidation

Poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have been detected in an increasing number of water supplies. In many instances, the contamination is associated with the use of PFAS-containing aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF) in firefighting activities. To investigate the potential for remediating AFFF contamination in groundwater with heat-activated persulfate, PFAS oxidation and the generation o...

Bubble motion measurements during foam drainage and coarsening.

We have studied bubble motion within a column of foam allowed to undergo free drainage. We have measured bubble motion upward with time and as a function of their initial positions. Depending on the gas used, which sets the coarsening and drainage rates, different bubble upward motion types have been identified (constant speed, acceleration or deceleration) and explained in relation with liquid...

EXPERIMENT AND APPLICATION OF AN ANNULAR FOAM BREAKER FOR FOAM DRILLING FLUID (RESEARCH NOTE)

The annular foam breaker is one which uses the vacuum and shear force generated by the Coanda effect to break foam. Its effectiveness in destroying drilling foam has been test in wellbore flow simulation loop experimental stand. Experimental results showed that the operating pressure of the annular foam breaker should be larger than 0.6MPa and the stabilizers concentration of the foam drilling ...
